Our SPA day at Tre-Ysgawen Hall
We had the pleasure of going for the first time to Tre-Ysgawen Hall recently on a SPA day, I don’t know how I have lived here for this many years and not ventured to see it their wonderful grounds and Gorgian manor.
I booked a good friend in for a treatment as a birthday gift, then we headed over to explore. The first thing that your greeted with, as you turn down the long grove style driveway, is the sheer opulence it must have demonstrated in its day as a shome. I always fall for these long sweeping driveways, lined with oaks and elm trees, it brings back memories of Downton Abbey. At the entrance to the SPA you are met by enormous ornate iron from gates, that bring you into the main parking area.
After checking in with the warm friendly staff, we took a walk through the manicured gardens in the blistering Anglesey summer heat. They clearly take much pride in their grounds as they are kept within an inch of perfection.
We veneered on a walk though the woodland, and around to old entrance of the stately home that now is a Hotel, it’s safe to say it’s no ordinary hotel. The architecture that greets you is bold and defined. This place is beautiful. Inside the hotel the ceilings rise up twenty feet and meet ornate coving and elaborate chandeliers. The main reception area has an oak staircase as wide as “B road” winding its way up to the upper levels of the building. Oil on canvas decorates the tall walls, with some stunning pieces and large decadent rooms spur off in each direction.
After our tour of the grounds asa hotel, Niki was booked for a reflexology treatment with one of their senior staff. But just before, we had a brief tour of the pool side and thermal suite before her treatment began.
The main feature is the large open feel swimming pool room which is tastefully presented and lit with lots of natural light. The pool is the perfect size for both a leisurely swim or for lengths for the more recreational swimmer.
There is also a thermal suite on the pool side which consists of Ice fountain, sensory experience shower, Aromatherapy sauna, and salt inhalation therapy room. All this plus jacuzzi on the pool side too. There is comfy reclining pool which is great for having a lye down or just having a read.
All of these facilities are in close proximity to one another so you can move between the treatment rooms, via a very lovely locker room to the pool and westside of the Spa. The pool backs on to a open faced courtyard with plenty of privacy. You can lounge by the pool side with their luxurious robes that they provide for you, then head out for a spot of fresh air in the court year which has seating and shade for midday sun.
The Restaurant backs on the courtyard and you can dine alfresco or inside. The facilities are great I have to say, I worked on my laptop there whilst waiting for niki to return from the treatment, had a coffee, and took it all in.
There is a tranquil feel to this place that makes even islanders like myself feel that they could be anywhere. The Hotel and SPA’s position in the centre of the island of Anglesey makes it just far enough out of the way to feel a little secluded. The hotel’s decadence certainly adds to that feeling too.
